The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that 250,000 businesses in the country will get free business name registration from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). This was scheduled to commence on Monday, October 19, 2020.
The Presidency, Federal Government of Nigeria made this announcement on its official Twitter account on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. The announcement reads:
“As part of @NigeriaGov support to MSMEs, Pres. @MBuhari has approved FREE REGISTRATION of business names for 250,000 MSMEs nationwide, by @cacnigeria1: 7,906 free registrations in FCT; 9,084 in Lagos; 8,406 in Kano, and 6,606 free business names in each of the remaining 34 states.”
According to the publication on the CAC website, the registration for free business name was to commence on Monday, October 19, 2020. In view of this, the Commission has advised interested Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) owners to provide the following documents at any of the CAC centres:
- Three (3) Proposed Names
- Two (2) Passport sized photographs
- Valid Means of Identification
- Phone Number/Email address
Armed with the above, interested business owners will avail themselves the opportunity to benefit from this programme.
The free business name registration is open to 6,606 businesses in each of the 34 states. However, Abia, Lagos and Kano states will have 7,906, 9,084 and 8,406 free business name registration respectively.
The Commission has provided a list of aggregators for each states which can be accessed HERE.
